13/01/2018#0183;#32;Most commercial modern placers in the State have been principally mined for gold, although the Douglas Creek placers in southeastern Wyoming also possess platinum and palladium, the Clarks Camp placers in the northern Wind River Range contain anomalous monazite in addition to gold, and the Mineral Hill placers in northeastern Wyoming also have tin, tantalite, and magnetite (Figure 2).
Gold recovered from gravels up to 20 feet thick varied from 890 to 960 fine, with some silver and traces of platinum. Currey (1965) estimated total gold production from the Douglas Creek placers at about 4,000 ounces. The Douglas Creek district remains a popular area

However, history indicates that Ira Moore discovered gold in 1868, and the Douglas Creek district (originally referred to as the Foley district) was organized. In the following year, about 400 ounces of placer gold were recovered.
